Wild boar damage is a major problem for agriculture, as the little animals not only love to eat maize, grain and other crops, but also cause extensive trampling damage when searching. In some cases, entire harvests are destroyed – and in the worst case, farms are left with the option of reseeding.
Little known: Drones can be used very effectively to detect such field damage at an early stage and take countermeasures as quickly as possible.
There was also a suspicion that a pack of wild boars might be up to mischief on an area nearby – and so M4Com was commissioned to check and evaluate the data.
The flight path was programmed in advance with all the suspicious spots. The drone then flew over the field on its own and produced the desired images. The resulting images were then stitched together into an orthophoto using our special software to see the entire field
In addition to documenting the damage to the field, we were also able to prove and quantify the activity of wild boar with the help of night-time photographs. Appropriate animal-friendly measures were initiated.
